ECHIUM PLANTAGINEUM SEED OIL

Viperina Piantaginea (Echium plantagineum) seed oil is extracted by cold pressing from the seeds of the homonymous plant. The oil extracted by this process is particularly useful in cosmetics due to its significant concentration of fatty acids, particularly the stearidonic acid, of the Omega-3 family. Stearidonic acid has a strong anti-inflammatory action, since it is effective in inhibiting 5-lipoxygenase and thus eliminates the inflammation mechanism (arachidonic acid metabolism). Viperina Piantaginea seed oil is the richest natural source of this acid, containing about 12%. Another aspect that should not be underestimated is the content of linolenic acid (7-12%) which, according to recent literature, limits transcutaneous water loss and helps the skin to stay properly hydrated.
